ALLERGIES? If you are strongly allergic to dogs or cats, please let me know details as we can be sure to schedule a session at rented massage room at a nearby clinic.  Either of these for $20 add on.  If it is only through actual contact, please know the animals are not in contact with the table, sheets or blanket used during a massage and my hands and arms are washed thoroughly before working.

Massage Therapy: Each session will incorporate your specific requests within a deep tissue, muscularly detailed massage. I am quite strong and some require strong, deep work. Others withdraw from this and require a softer pressure. Inform me and I will respond to your requests.

Come as freshly washed as you can. Please tell me if you are allergic to any specific oils so I can have a beneficial oil on hand or you can bring your own. I use a massage table and will cover with a sheet and blanket any area I am not specifically working on.

I've  worked from my home for 30 years, still on Madison's eastside, near Olbrich Gardens.

Contact me and we can schedule at a good time for you.

Somatic Education:  These sessions are done clothed on the massage table. The first
session tends to be longer.  Please plan for 1.5 hrs for discussion, visual analysis, time on the table for bodywork and education, and post-work recommendations.   It is called "education" for a reason as most musculoskeletal pain is the result of chronically tight muscles. In order to get lasting relief, you need to engage in an active learning process to train your nervous system to release chronic muscular contraction.  Unlike massage therapy, this requires for you to stay awake and highly aware of your own internal experiences, your own "soma".
The work is slow and gentle which causes the sensory/motor neuron tract in the Cortex to become aware of muscular tension that has become so familiar that the Cortex "forgot" about it.  In Somatics, this is called SMA, Sensory Motor Amnesia.  Familiar patterns move to the Sub-Cortex where they will not change until told to by the sensory/motor tract in the Cortex.  In the case of walking, ice skating, holding a spoon, it is excellent that the familiar learned movement moves to the Sub-Cortex.  It allows us coordination, the ability to not have to relearn how to stand up each and every time.   However, whether from a mental, emotion or physical source, maladaptive (more harmful than helpful) patterns of movement and contraction, also are stored in the Sub-Cortex. These begin to affect skeletal structure--which then pulls on other muscles, puts pressure on joints, may move us out of alignment which may affect internal organs, breathing, blood flow, etc.  In short, a long held contraction can be the source, the cause, of all kinds of pain.

There are 3 main protocols that are done in order during the first 3 sessions.  If more sessions are desired to pinpoint remaining issues, we will schedule.  Each session comes with its own 1-3 exercises to practice for 1-2 weeks, daily (5 minutes).  This is to ingrain the new information in the nervous system.  It really works!
